Sebastian Ruthenberg won the trophy at the Barcelona Open, the first event of the European Poker Tour. His share of the prize was its €1,361,000.

 

The first EPT Awards were announced at the Opium Bar in Barcelona. The ceremony was hosted by PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu and PokerNews presenter Gloria Balding. The awards were held on the eve of the first EPT event of this season, which takes off in Barcelona.

 

How to Become a Poker Millionaire is a new poker reality show going on air on ITV Wales this week. The centerpiece of the show will be the poker pro Dave ‘The Devilfish’ Ulliott.  Dave will be training four poker amateurs. Each week one player will be eliminated. The winner will get a free seat to the WSOP 2009 Main Event.

 

Poker Lounge, the exclusive and classy poker room of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino has been in the news for the last few months. It finally opened its doors with a grand celebrity tournament on Saturday the 13th. The second inaugural celebrity event is slated for Monday.

The highly rated World Poker Tour Legends main event was played out at the Bicycle Casino in Bell gardens, California, last week. The tournament, which had a buy-in of $10,000, began on August 23 with a field of 373 and a prize pool of $3,545,738.

 

PurePlay.com, the free online poker site that operates out of San Francisco, was proud to announce this week that it had managed to increase its membership numbers to over 1.5 million. The Main Event of the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Macau has just been completed. American Edward Sabat won the event and the prize of  $454K. Sabat was not only the youngest player at the final table and had qualified through an online qualifier. Earlier this year Sabat had cashed in events in WPT, WSOP and LAPT.

 

Two major poker tournaments are currently being played out. One is PokerStars’ online WCOOP. This has reached the halfway stage. The biggest event held so far was the $530 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event with a guaranteed prize pool of $3 million. Calvin32 was the winner and he took home $452,087.

 

Those who missed out on the live action at the Main Event of WSOP 2008 can view the highlights on ESPN. This is the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event. The first episode was aired on the 2nd of September at 5 p.m. PT. This episode featured the four Day1 Starting fields that saw 6,844 entrants being pared down to 3,737.

 

The second spot of the 2008 Asian Poker Tour (APT) begins at Macau on August 27 and will run till August 31. There were two grand pre-tournament events held on August 26.

 

The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is currently on. So far 8 events have been completed for a total prize money of over $8 million. PokerStars, the sponsors of WCOOP, have put up some all time facts and figures pertaining to WCOOP at their web site.

The Ladies International Poker Series, popularly known as LIPS, is having a tournament in South America for the first time. In this endeavor it has partnered with Pro Poker Challenge of America. The venue is the Casino Atlantic City in the city of Miraflores in Peru.
