Ruthenberg Wins Barcelona Open

Sebastian Ruthenberg won the trophy at the Barcelona Open, the first event of the European Poker Tour. His share of the prize was its €1,361,000.

Ruthenberg’s previous best performance in any European Poker Tour event was the third place that he had secured in the third season of the European Poker Tour in March 2007 in his home country of Germany. At the WSOP 2008 Ruthenberg had won a bracelet in the $5,000 buy-in 7 Card Stud Event.

This event had record 619 entries. In the heads-up Ruthenberg met Gavin. Ruthenberg had a massive chip lead and crushed Fintan Gavin in three hands. Also in the final table was Jason Mercier who had two nominations at the EPT Awards but failed to win any award.

The next European Poker tour events will be held in London between October 1 and October 6. The second of these events is the £1 Million Showdown that has a £20,300 buy-in.
