Two major poker tournaments are currently being played out. One is PokerStars’ online WCOOP. This has reached the halfway stage. The biggest event held so far was the $530 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event with a guaranteed prize pool of $3 million. Calvin32 was the winner and he took home $452,087.

The other event, also sponsored by PokerStars, is the Barcelona leg of the EPT. This being the first tournament of the current season is drawing additional attention. The tournament that will pay out $1,3 million to the winner has 38 players left in the fray at the end of Day 2. Davidi Kitai is in the lead and Jason Mercier, who missed out in the EPT Awards, is at fifth spot.

The other major poker news from last week was the merger of StoxPoker and CardRunners. They are the two premier poker instruction organizations. The two will retain their separate identities and target different segments of the market but will share resources and will legally be a single entity.
