The World Poker Association, the Las Vegas-based advocacy group that pushes for the recognition of land based and online poker as a sport, has announced that its chairman, Wendeen Eolis has resigned from the board. Eolis has taken up a position to serve on the Presidential campaign of one of the candidates in the United States.

Ryan Hughes became the first player in the history of WSOP to win two golden bracelets in Seven Card Stud Hi-low-8 or Better Events. The first of these was won in WSOP 2007 and the second was won this year. This comes as a surprise because Hughes has stated that his favorite game is not Seven Card Stud but Omaha High-Low Split. With this second bracelet he may well change his mind.
Layne Flack won the 6th WSOP bracelet of his career defeating Daniel Makowsky in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys. This marks the end of a lean period for Flack.
2008 WSOP Event #51, the 1,500 USD buy in H.O.R.S.E. will be remembered more for Phil Hellmuth not getting a 12th bracelet than for James Schaaf getting his 1st one.
John “Razor” Phan became the first player to win two bracelets at WSOP 2008. His second bracelet came in Event #40, the 2,500 USD buy in 2-7 Triple Draw. Phan was in the lead in the strong final table of six.
Halfway through the tournament is a good time to check out who is where on the leader board that will ultimately decide on the WSOP Player of the Year. The top ten places in descending order are as follows: Erick Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Selbst, David Singer, Jacobo Fernandez, Andy Bloch, Scott Seiver, Theo Tran and Fu Wong.
For the last three years Gaming Life Expo has featured poker related products and services during WSOP tournaments. This year the expo will commence on July 3 to coincide with the starting day of the WSOP main event. It will be on till July 6.
The popular online poker room, PokerStars, has signed on the Swedish professional player William Thorson to play exclusively for them. PokerStars said that they were thrilled to have the number one Swedish player in their Ranks. They added that Thorson has had great successes in the past and even greater successes are expected of him in the future.
PokerTek, the manufacturer of the branded electronic poker table PokerPro, has confirmed that the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City has opened a 12-table poker room. The special feature is that all tables are the PokerPro tables.

After a grueling 5 days Scotty Nguyen beat the other 147 contestants to win the bracelet, the $1,989,120 first prize and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.
Harrah’s, the organizers of World Series of Poker, have announced some important changes for WSOP 2008 even as the tournament has progressed beyond the half way stage. Earlier there were to be three main prizes at WSOP 2008 constituting a sort of Triple Crown.
Event #28 at WSOP 2008, the 5,000 USD Pot-Limit Omaha with rebuys has turned out to be the clash of the Titans. This was a final table that poker fans were waiting for. At the head of the table is Johnny Chan, with a chip count of 2,007,000.
