At a recent conference held in France in order to determine the current status of the French online gaming market, a leading French casino owner accused the government of not doing all it can to regulate the online gaming market, as promised.

Dominique Desseigne, Chairman of the French casino group Lucien Barriere, said that it was unlikely that the French online gaming market would open before 2010.

Sebastien Proto, the Deputy Director of the Finance Ministry and the government representative at the conference disagreed with Desseigne’s assessment and said that the government was on track with their schedule. He explained that the proposed legislation would be submitted for governmental approval by the end of the year, and once approved, a regulatory body would be established to develop the implantation of the licensing procedures.
