The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) is currently being played at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square in London. The first event, the £1,500 No Limit Hold’Em was won by the 24 year old Dane Jesper Hougaard.
In doing so Hougaard created history by being the first person to win a bracelet at both the venues of WSOP – Las Vegas and London. In June Hougaard had won a bracelet in the same event in Las Vegas. This feat is not as great as it sounds because the WSOPE is only in its second year.
Hougaard entered this event through a Betfair sponsored Bootcamp in Denmark. He was eighth going into the final table with a short chip stack but stuck it out resolutely till the end. He went home with a prize of £144,218.
Meanwhile the second event, the £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. is in progress at WSOPE. The well-known names in the fray are Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Jeff Duvall and David Negreanu.
