The World Lottery Association rewarded the state-owned Swedish gambling group, Svenska Spel with the top title in its Responsible Gaming Excellence awards at its annual conference in Greece this week.
A group of judges specializing in corporate social responsibility examined gambling companies and their responsible gambling practices from the around the globe before settling on Svenska Spel.
"It is fantastic and a major recognition of the responsibility work which we pursue and invest heavily in," said the acting Chief Executive Officer for Svenska Spel, Anders Hagg. "We are of course incredibly pleased and proud. A lot of gaming companies have, in recent years, invested a lot in developing responsible gambling programs, so competition for this prize has been tough."
The Swedish government was also said to be extremely pleased with the news and offered its congratulations to Svenska Spel.
