DKR, a consultant company that was commissioned by the Gaming and Leisure Association of Ireland, has said that there is huge potential for the Irish gambling industry, especially if the government chose to make the country a licensing and regulation center for the rest of Europe. DKR said that, in this case, the industry could generate an incredible $680 million for the government’s coffers by 2020.
David Dickson, of the Gaming and Leisure Association of Ireland said: "There has been no previous quantitative examination of the size of the casino gaming sector in Ireland, nor the potential for future growth based on international trends. This report establishes some sort of an economic benchmark for the debate on regulation."
The report notes that the online gambling industry has an even bigger growth potential than Irish land-based casinos.
