Following Gibraltar-based gaming firm Victor Chandler having submitted an application earlier this year for a license to operate in South Africa, the Western Cape Gambling and Betting Board has granted them the license. Victor Chandler is hoping to start accepting bets before the 2010 Football World Cup which is due to take place in South Africa. The new base for Victor Chandler will be in Cape Town, where the World Cup draw took place on Friday December 4th.

The Chief Executive Officer of Victor Chandler, Michael Carlton said “ We are naturally excited about this opportunity. The Victor Chandler brand fits perfectly with the South African market."

"We are really proud to be involved in a country where sport is so entrenched in its culture. I will be investing locally over the next few months in order to launch our full range sports betting service in time for the World Cup."

"Alongside offering a South African specific website to customers we will also be creating numerous employment opportunities,” he added.

It is the company’s intention to create a special World Cup site. This site will enable football fans to keep up to date with all the latest team and tournament news, updated tables as well as special features on all the key players.

Victor Chandler’s new mini site was launched to coincide with the World Cup draw on December 4th.
