Online Gambling Advertising Banned by Facebook

Typography

Facebook, the popular social networking site, has decided to ban all forms of gambling advertising, including advertisements for online bingo, casinos, poker and sportsbooks from their site.  This is despite the fact that there are applications on facebook through which poker and casino games can still be played for free.

The executives at Facebook are apparently trying their best to protect their younger audience as it was recently discovered that underage Facebook users were being provided with x-rated content by Bing.  They have, therefore, tried to prevent a repetition by blocking all types of “adult” entertainment from all Facebook users.

It could well be that the ban on online gambling advertisements is to protect underage gamblers but the ban could also be as a result of many people feeling that gambling is a vice.  In view of the fact that gambling laws in the United States are possibly changing and the US is the home of Facebook it is not quite certain what pushed Facebook to introduce the ban and whether or not it will once again permit online advertisements upon the repeal of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
